Day 1 of 9
Keep a space for prayer
Reflect
A quiet space need not be elaborate. It may be a chair, a corner, or a few minutes before the day begins. What matters is the intention to become present to God. Start with a time you can keep, allowing prayer to be simple enough to return to tomorrow.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord Jesus, through St. Clare's intercession, help me make room for you. Receive the intention I bring and the distractions that accompany it. Teach me to be present without demanding perfect conditions. May a little faithful time in prayer gradually shape how I meet the rest of my day. Amen.
Day 2 of 9
Look with attention
Reflect
Contemplation invites us to remain with what we might otherwise pass over. Consider the compassion of Jesus in one Gospel scene. Notice whom he attends to and what draws your own attention. Allow the scene to become an invitation to love, not simply material to analyze.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Jesus, with St. Clare's prayers, help me attend to your life with love. Slow my hurry to move on before I have listened. Let the Gospel reveal something about the people around me and the care they need. Deepen my prayer and make it bear fruit in patient attention. Amen.
Day 3 of 9
Practice freedom from excess
Reflect
Having more does not always create more freedom. Sometimes it increases maintenance, comparison, and worry. Notice one possession or habit that asks more of you than it gives. Simplicity can be a considered choice to release what prevents attention to God, responsibilities, and the people you love.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Father, through St. Clare's intercession, teach me freedom in the use of possessions. Help me distinguish a genuine need from a restless desire for more. Give me gratitude for enough and generosity with what I can share. Let simplicity create space for prayer and faithful care of others. Amen.
Day 4 of 9
Be faithful in community
Reflect
Community is built with people whose temperaments, habits, and needs differ. The wish for perfect companions can become an excuse to avoid ordinary patience. Consider where you can contribute to a more respectful shared life. Faithfulness includes listening, offering help, and addressing tensions honestly.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
God of communion, with St. Clare's prayers, bless the communities to which I belong. Give us patience with differences and courage to speak truthfully. Help me contribute without needing to control. Teach us to protect the vulnerable, share responsibilities fairly, and make room for one another's gifts. Amen.
Day 5 of 9
Stand firm with charity
Reflect
A conviction may require a difficult decision or a carefully stated limit. Courage and charity need not compete. Ask whether your firmness protects something truly good or merely defends your preference. Seek counsel where needed, then speak clearly without making contempt part of your argument.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord, through St. Clare's intercession, help me stand faithfully for what is good. Give me wisdom to examine my motives and courage to act when action is needed. Keep my words respectful and my judgment open to truth. Help me set necessary limits without withdrawing love. Amen.
Day 6 of 9
Receive care in weakness
Reflect
Weakness can reveal how difficult it is to let someone else serve us. Illness, fatigue, or changing capacity does not remove dignity. Consider whether you are refusing needed support in order to preserve an image of independence. Receiving care can become an act of trust and gratitude.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Compassionate Father, with St. Clare's prayers, bless those who are ill, tired, or dependent on others. Help me receive appropriate care without shame. Give patience and rest to caregivers. Teach us to see dignity beyond productivity and to make room for the needs that a hurried world overlooks. Amen.
Day 7 of 9
Remember those who pray quietly
Reflect
Much care remains invisible: someone praying for a family, keeping watch beside a patient, or carrying another's concern in silence. Give thanks for these hidden forms of faithfulness. Your own prayer can share in that work without needing to know every result or receive recognition.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Father, through St. Clare's intercession, bless those who sustain others through quiet prayer and care. Strengthen contemplative communities and everyone who intercedes in hidden ways. Receive the people I bring before you today. Help me remain faithful even when I cannot see how my prayer is bearing fruit. Amen.
Day 8 of 9
Give thanks for friendship
Reflect
A faithful friend can help us see both our gifts and our blind spots. Consider someone whose presence has encouraged you to live more truthfully. Gratitude may invite a note, a conversation, or a willingness to return that care. Let friendship become a place of mutual growth rather than possession.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
Pray
Prayer for this day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord Jesus, with St. Clare's prayers, thank you for the friendships that encourage goodness. Bless those who have listened, corrected, and supported me. Help me be trustworthy and generous in return. Keep our care free from manipulation, and guide us to respect one another's freedom and responsibilities. Amen.
Day 9 of 9
Protect a faithful rhythm
Reflect
Choose one practice from this novena that can fit your real responsibilities. A small rhythm of prayer, service, and rest is easier to sustain than an idealized schedule. Protect it with gentleness. When it is interrupted, return without treating a missed day as the end of your commitment.
Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
