Day 1 of 9

Make room through simplicity

Reflect

Possessions and commitments can become so numerous that they leave little attention for people. Simplicity begins with noticing what supports love and what crowds it out. You do not need to discard everything. Choose one small way to make room for prayer, gratitude, or another person's presence.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, through St. Francis's intercession, help me live with greater simplicity. Show me what I hold too tightly and what I neglect. Receive the intention I bring to these nine days. Give me freedom to use my possessions well and to make room for the people you place before me. Amen.

Day 2 of 9

See the person you avoid

Reflect

Discomfort can make us look past someone before we have recognized their dignity. Consider a person or group you tend to dismiss. You do not need to ignore genuine risks to examine a prejudice. Ask for the grace to see a human being rather than a convenient label.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord Jesus, with St. Francis's prayers, open my eyes to the dignity of people I overlook. Help me question easy judgments and respond with respect. Give me prudence where it is needed, but keep caution from becoming contempt. Make me willing to learn from someone whose experience differs from mine. Amen.

Day 3 of 9

Choose a peacemaking word

Reflect

Peace often begins in how a disagreement is carried. A sentence can inflame resentment or make understanding more possible. Consider whether your next words need to correct, clarify, apologize, or simply wait. Peacemaking requires courage to name a problem without treating the other person as the problem.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God of peace, through St. Francis's intercession, guide my words in a disagreement. Help me remain truthful without becoming cruel. Give me patience to listen and humility to admit my part. Lead us toward a fair, safe resolution, and keep me from enjoying the power to wound. Amen.

Day 4 of 9

Receive creation as a gift

Reflect

A place becomes easier to care for when we notice it. Look closely at water, soil, trees, animals, or the changing sky where you live. Gratitude can lead toward responsible use rather than careless consumption. Begin with one concrete habit whose effect is within your reach.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Creator God, with St. Francis's prayers, help me receive the world with gratitude and care. Forgive my wastefulness and indifference. Teach me to use what I need responsibly and protect the places shared with others. Bless those whose work sustains the land, water, and living things around us. Amen.

Day 5 of 9

Share with respect

Reflect

Generosity is more than disposing of what you no longer want. It asks what another person actually needs and how to give without diminishing them. Consider your money, time, and attention together. A modest, reliable commitment may serve better than a dramatic gesture you cannot sustain.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Generous Father, through St. Francis's intercession, open my heart to people facing need. Guide what I offer so that it is useful, respectful, and freely given. Help me receive others as neighbors rather than projects. Bless those working quietly to provide food, shelter, companionship, and opportunity. Amen.

Day 6 of 9

Welcome correction humbly

Reflect

A criticism can touch the wish to appear good more sharply than the desire to become good. Pause before defending yourself. There may be something useful to receive even in an imperfectly delivered message. Humility allows learning without requiring you to accept every accusation as true.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord, with St. Francis's prayers, give me a humble and discerning heart. Help me hear correction without immediate anger and recognize truth without surrendering sound judgment. Show me where change is needed. Give me courage to make that change quietly, without excuses or a demand for praise. Amen.

Day 7 of 9

Work for the common good

Reflect

Ordinary work can become a contribution to a shared life. Cleaning, repairing, organizing, growing food, or doing a job honestly may protect someone else's time and well-being. Ask who benefits from your work and who bears its costs. Let care guide the way you complete today's tasks.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, through St. Francis's intercession, bless the work entrusted to me. Help me do it honestly and with attention to those it affects. Keep me from careless shortcuts and from measuring every task by recognition. Let my labor contribute to a more peaceful and generous life with others. Amen.

Day 8 of 9

Find joy without pretending

Reflect

Joy need not mean denying sorrow or forcing a cheerful mood. It can grow from receiving a simple good thing freely: friendship, beauty, a meal, a quiet moment. Make space to enjoy one gift without immediately seeking something more. Let gratitude interrupt the restless habit of comparison.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God of goodness, with St. Francis's prayers, help me receive simple joys with gratitude. Comfort me in real sorrow without allowing it to hide every gift. Free me from constant comparison and the demand for more. Make me a considerate companion who can share another person's joy as well as their burden. Amen.

Day 9 of 9

Let peace become a practice

Reflect

Choose one thread from these nine days to continue: a simpler habit, careful speech, respectful generosity, or care for your surroundings. A peaceful life is formed through repeated choices rather than a single emotional moment. Bring your intention to God and ask for steady faithfulness.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, thank you for these days of prayer with St. Francis. Receive the intention I have carried and continue to guide it. Give me a generous heart, a humble spirit, and courage to work for peace. Help me care for your gifts and meet my neighbors with sincere love. Amen.

You have reached the final prayer. Carry one practice into the days ahead.
