Day 1 of 9

Name the difficult situation

Reflect

Begin by describing the situation plainly. You do not have to make it sound smaller, more spiritual, or easier than it is. Bring your fear and hope together before God. Prayer can become a place to find steadiness for the practical choices that remain yours to make.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Merciful Father, through St. Rita's intercession, receive the difficulty I bring before you. You know what I cannot explain well. Give me steadiness, honest hope, and wisdom for the next step. Surround those involved with appropriate help, and keep me from believing that I must carry everything alone. Amen.

Day 2 of 9

Release the need to control

Reflect

When someone we love is struggling, concern can become an attempt to manage every choice they make. Love can offer help while respecting freedom. Consider the difference between a responsibility that is yours and an outcome you cannot force. Bring both into prayer without blaming yourself for having limits.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord, with St. Rita's prayers, help me love without trying to control. Show me what I can responsibly offer and where I need to step back. Give me patience with other people's freedom, courage for clear boundaries, and trust that my limits do not mean I have stopped caring. Amen.

Day 3 of 9

Find a safe path toward peace

Reflect

Peace requires attention to truth and safety. Forgiveness does not require remaining in danger, excusing abuse, or immediately restoring trust. Ask for guidance about what a faithful step looks like in your circumstances. Sometimes that step is a conversation; sometimes it is distance and the support of trustworthy people.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God of peace, through St. Rita's intercession, guide me in a strained relationship. Protect those who are vulnerable and help them reach safety. Give me wisdom to distinguish reconciliation from denial of harm. Lead every effort toward peace with truth, accountability, patience, and appropriate boundaries. Amen.

Day 4 of 9

Let grief be spoken

Reflect

Grief may return long after others assume it has passed. There is no need to hurry it into a neat lesson. Bring a name, memory, or loss into prayer. Let remembrance and present needs share the same space, and accept companionship where it is available.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Compassionate Lord, through St. Rita's prayers, receive the sorrow I carry. Comfort those who mourn and those whose losses are difficult to explain. Help me speak honestly, accept care, and rest when I am weary. Keep love alive in remembrance, and guide me gently through the responsibilities of today. Amen.

Day 5 of 9

Take the next faithful step

Reflect

A large difficulty may not become manageable all at once. The next faithful step could be an appointment, a truthful message, or asking someone to help you make a plan. Small action is not a denial of the problem's size. It is a way to begin responding within your actual strength.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, through St. Rita's intercession, help me see the next responsible action. Free me from the belief that I must solve everything today. Give me courage to ask for help and patience with gradual progress. Bless those who offer wise counsel, practical care, and steady companionship. Amen.

Day 6 of 9

Resist bitterness

Reflect

Anger may reveal a real injury, but continually rehearsing retaliation can deepen the wound. Notice what happens when your thoughts return to revenge. Ask for freedom to seek justice without becoming consumed by hatred. Bring your feelings honestly to God before choosing how you will act.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Day 7 of 9

Receive help without shame

Reflect

Accepting help can feel harder than offering it. Yet shared burdens make room for mutual care and honest limits. Consider one need you have been hiding because you fear becoming an inconvenience. Let another person's willingness to help be received as a gift rather than a verdict on your strength.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God of compassion, through St. Rita's intercession, help me receive the care I need. Give me words to ask clearly and humility to accept a kind response. Bless caregivers, counselors, friends, and family members. Teach us to support one another with respect and to make room for rest. Amen.

Day 8 of 9

Recognize hope without certainty

Reflect

Hope is not proof that a particular outcome will happen. It can sustain prayer, action, and love while the future remains open. Look for signs of support, insight, or courage rather than searching for guarantees. Let a small good thing encourage you without requiring it to explain everything.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.

Pray

Prayer for this day

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, through St. Rita's prayers, renew hope in the places where I feel discouraged. Help me welcome real encouragement without demanding certainty. Give me perseverance in prayer and flexibility in responding to circumstances. Keep the people I love in your care, and guide us toward what is truly good. Amen.

Day 9 of 9

Continue with trust

Reflect

Finishing a novena does not set a deadline for God or for another person's change. Bring your intention again, giving thanks for any strength received. Choose a sustainable way to continue seeking help and practicing love. Faithfulness can continue even when the situation still needs time and attention.

Original reflection from Life of the Saints.
