Dominic practices being a friend

Dominic Savio was a student at John Bosco’s Oratory in Turin. He wanted to grow close to God while doing the ordinary things in a student’s day. He prayed, studied and tried to help his companions.

Salesian accounts remember Dominic encouraging other students, helping those who were sick and trying to settle quarrels. He died in 1857 while still a teenager. His life is remembered in the Salesian calendar on May 6.

You do not have to manage every disagreement by yourself. If a situation feels unsafe, get help from a trusted grown-up. In a small disagreement, you can listen, use calm words and avoid making the problem bigger.

Friendship takes practice. You might admit a mistake, give someone a turn or invite a lonely classmate into a game. None of us does this perfectly. Each new day brings a chance to learn.
