Monica keeps hope alive

Monica lived in North Africa in the fourth century. She was the mother of Augustine, who later became a Christian teacher and bishop. Their family story included worries and disagreements.

Monica cared deeply about her son. She prayed for him over many years. Augustine eventually became a Christian and wrote about his mother with gratitude.

Hope did not mean that Monica could choose everything for her son. Each person has choices to make. Her story can remind us to pray for people we love and to speak to them with patience.
